Based on the Myth PhD (play hence destroy) thematic, Create an Accident proposes four outstanding new projects and a residency programme!

In collaboration with innovative artists and theorists from all over the world, Create an Accident offers the audience the opportunity to come in contact with artworks from around the multitude of arts, in places recognized for their pioneer action, and also at the urban fabric of the city.

From cosmogonic theories and Homer’s Ulysses to Lady Gaga and contemporary urban legends, from religious narrations and Acropolis’ architecture to conspiracy theories and Lionel Messi, Create an Accident chooses Myth to be the basic concept for the totality of its activities in 2012-2013.

Greek and foreign theoreticians and artists produce works and actions that drive through vantages and interpretations of Myth, from the viewpoint of contemporary urban culture. Theatrical performances, exhibitions, printed editions and interventions on the urban structure compound the core of a polymorphic program that elaborates on the myths of our global heritage and, at the same time, researches, renegotiates, reforms, rebuts, re-proposes or generates new individual and collective mythologies.

Springing from the concepts of Play and Destruction as fundamental manifestations of social formations, works that constitute Create an Accident’s program exploit and combine the unbridled freedom with the intricate nexus of rules, strategies and confinements that reside within these two concepts, attempting to give potential answers to the ever-present phenomenon of human communities concurring with the myths that they create.

Works that relentlessly delve into the core of Myths to mine the hows, the whys and the by whoms, projecting Play and Destruction as inextricable parts of the formulation, perpetuation and disappearance processes of social formations.

1. ПАРНИК
Τhe visual artist rooster, using unexpected materials, installs a distinctive greenhouse of myths. Ηe explores the genesis and transformations of myths, looking at the imaginary line joining the “mythical” with the “real world”.
2. wheel, schoolbag, skive
Paki Vlassopoulou, Chrysanthi Koumianaki & Kosmas Nikolaou create game conditions (rather than a game) in order to destroy the urban legend and debunk mind games.
3. argos
A new theatre production by Create an Accident. A performance-elegy on what has not yet happened, on what is expected to happen, on what, once happened, will signify the end of all things.
4. thesis
An international group exhibition about impossible actions, the notion of destruction and the construction of a new social contract.
5. residency @ Mercouri Estate
Mercouri Estate and Create an Accident bring creative people together from all around the world and offer the opportunity to emerging artists and researchers to create / develop and present their project during a residency period at Mercouri Estate’s facilities.
